A Covid-19 Creation
Birds & Bare Branches
Looking out the window we saw birds dancing over bare branches and our conversation turned to Brian’s grandpa and his love for birds and flowers. As a child, Brian explored his grandpa’s backyard garden with wonder. He speaks of his grandpa with a fondness I seldom hear in his voice. “Grandpa loved the simple things in life.”
During that conversation, neither of us could have predicted how our lives would soon take a turn. That we’d be forced to seek out and seize the simpler moments.
Brian’s Birthday
Brian spent his birthday in the thick of Covid-19 quarantine. Shops were closed and online delivery was suspended. There was no way I could buy him a gift.
But Covid-19 has brought with it the gift of time. Time for me to pull out the oil paints I purchased months ago, then packed away, pulled away by the busyness of family life.
But when forced into isolation, time was in abundance.
Now, two months later, the shops have opened and life is starting to pick up pace.
I ordered Brian a gift and when it arrived we sang happy birthday once again. I included another gift, too, something I wouldn’t have been able to give but for quarantine. This painting of a sparrow, in oil. A simple composition to remind us to enjoy the simple things in life. A gift birthed from challenge to remind us that no matter how hard life gets, we can draw beauty from every season.
As hard as isolation is, I believe it offers something special to each of us. How are you gaining from this challenging time? I’d love to hear in the comments below.
Wow. Good job, Charity. Love your painting. Did you use a pallet knife? Jia you!!
I used a stiff brush and thick paint. Thanks, Kathryn.
I have been enjoying lots of time in worship with the family. So thankful for instruments and music!
Tyra, great to hear from you! We’ve been blessed by music too, as our kids picked up their instruments again during isolation. So glad you’re having these special times with your family!
Beautiful reminder, Charity! I was just thinking about that this morning on my walk. I love to walk, especially in the forest. I had stopped for a time through the winter months as it is dark in the morning. With the arrival of Spring and then the isolation my mornings opened up again and I have been enjoying these walks immensely! It is a time for me to pray and to listen.
I love walking too, Trish. I can tell isolation is at its tail end here because yesterday as I walked by the river I passed at least a hundred people, all exercising. I’m glad your mornings have opened up – your walks in the forest sound so refreshing.
Hi Charity. I was able to open the link this morning. What a wonderful surprise! A beautifully painted bird. What a great way to lift our spirits. Thanks.
I have spent more time on the phone with my friends, and of course texting family all the time. Blessings! Dad
Dad J, I’ve been so thankful for your encouragement over the years, as I develop as an artist. Thank-you! I’m glad you’re connecting more with friends and family during this time. Blessings to you, too.
