Relaxing Deer

Painting

(with a story)

by Charity Lee Jennings

I was 11 years old, camping in the Rockies. My parents were in the site next to mine, with a row of bush between us and to my 11 year old self, it was like I was all alone encountering this big world. I stepped out of my tent and elk stood right there, among the trees in front of me – several of them. I couldn’t believe they were so close. I admired their long legs, strong bodies and the huge racks that protruded from their heads. I stood, hushed, and in awe, marvelling that there was a place like this, so different from anything I had ever experienced.

I’ve never had a morning quite like that since, but not long ago, I stayed in a place where nature was up close again.

During the first 5 minutes I tell the story behind the art, then it turns into a relaxing time of watching me paint. I know I still have a ways to go, in making good videos, but I hope you enjoy it!

In response to my story, do you have a special memory of when nature was up close?

If you do, I’d love to hear about it in the comments below.
